Ng tubes are temporary feeding tubes used for patients who cannot feed or swallow correctly.
Most infants needing ng tubes are simply too sick or too small to feed properly, so tube feedings are given until the baby is strong enough to feed on its own. If baby has a true swallowing problem, an ng tube may be used until a more permanent tube (g-tube) can be placed.
