In brief: Multiple

This is a huge question.
I'll try... Most deafness is either after an infectious illness or simply developmental, meaning ear structures or conducting nerves didn't form right. Viruses or overwhelming bacterial infections as an infant can cause deafness, especially cmv. For malformed structures, a cochlear implant can be a great good, especially if the issues are genetic. An ENT can help.

Genetic causes, even when there is no family history, is a very common cause of hearing loss in children.

In brief: Deafness

Almost any cause of deafness ( infections, genetic, inflammatory, age, noise) can be treated with ci as long as the cochlear nerve is intact, there is good brain/cognitive function, and the cochlea has not ossified or filled with bone/scar tissue.
