In brief: Yes.
One of the hallmarks of schizophrenia is "anhedonia" or an inability to enjoy things.
Animal assisted therapy has show promise in ameliorating this symptom. Hurrah for the animals!

In brief: It depends
On the one hand, such animal therapy may be very beneficial for a variety of different conditions.
On the other hand, i would be cautious with some one with schizophrenia who is actively psychotic and may be hallucinating or have certain delusional beliefs about the animals. Sometimes, a person who is actively psychotic may have unpredictable reactions and responses to otherwise benign things.
