Managed Care are not necessarily HMOs there are numerous types of Managed Care Plans (for example PPOs), but these terms Managed Care and HMO are often used interchangeably- but are not the same. Managed care is the monitoring and controlling health care use, and utilizes clinical literature to create cost conscious programs.
