In brief: Yes!

This is the only chronic disease in which the treatment is quite a potentially dangerous medicine, insulin.
Insulin is lifesaving, but very difficult to dose for those with type one diabetes. Insulin must be dosed just right, and the danger is that giving too much insulin will lead to a serious low blood sugar. Continuous Monitoring of blood sugar with CGM technology can minimize this risk.

In brief: Yes

Type 1 diabetes requires monitoring of your blood sugars and Insulin therapy.
Both having too low of a blood sugar or too high of a blood sugar can be very dangerous.

Today if unrecognised & untreated it can be. With recognition & treatment, a child, adolescent or adullt with t1dm can live a long and enjoyable life doing much of what everyone else can do.They generally learn how to do it safer & appreciate it more to boot.
