In brief: Stay controlled

Get an asthma action plan from your doc & make sure your asthma's well controlled under normal circumstances.
Then start walking. Steadily build speed or intensity. Watch for wheezing, coughing or shortness of breath. Carry a rescue inhaler. Don't exercise outdoors on poor air quality days. Wear a balaclava over face when exercising in the cold. Exercise is good for asthma if you know what to do.

In brief: Plan for it

The main principle of asthma treatment is to control the disease - not to let it control you.
If you find that you can't exercise as much as you want because of your asthma, you need to be evaluated by an allergist to develop a comprehensive treatment plan of allergen avoidance, medications, and immunotherapy so you can live your life the way you want.
