In brief: Prenatal care

Prenatal care is seeing a nurse practitioner or physician during a pregnancy monthly until about 36 weeks gestation then weekly if there are no medical issues.
Weight gain, BP check, fetal heart rate and any maternal concerns are discussed at each visit. A sonogram may be done to see if the fetus is growing properly. Blood work is usually done the first visit and culture for gbs at 36 weeks.
