Binge eating may be caused by both physiological and psychological reasons.
If you do not eat enough during the day, you may get so ravenous that you cannot stop eating and binge for that reason. Psychologically, binges can be a way to distract, numb, comfort or punish yourself. Some people unconsciously convert emotional pain to physical by eating so much that their stomachs hurt, for example.
