In brief: Treat

Rheumatic heart disease (rhd) is the result of an infection.
Once the infection has occurred and the damage has been done a person is left with what we call rheumatic heart disease (no damage-no rhd). This usually involves the heart valves. Depending on the severity it may require only observation, medical therapy or even surgical repair or replacement.Every case needs to be individually assessed.

In brief: Rheumatic

We first treat rheumatic fever. If the heart disease appears later, we deal with the manifestation.
We don't really cure.
