3 doctors agree

In brief: Specialist or PCP!

A good family phycisian will know your build (apple/pear), and also know your family hx.
Checking b p is standard, getting your lipids interpreted, and finally your hgba1c, complete the picture. Bmis are ok, but body composition analysis is better. You should leave knowing your ideal weight.

To a large degree this will depend upon why you are concerned about metabolic syndrome. This very severe disorder of metabolism may be related to many underlying illnesses. A good general internist or endocrinologist may be indicated if your family doctor is not familiar with this.

In brief: IM, endo

Internal medicine (an internist) or endocrinology (an endocrinologist) are two types of physicians best acquainted with metabolic syndrome.
