In brief: May be referred pain
A bad cold can cause inflammation of the mucus membranes that line the maturing sinuses this causes the mucus glands in the sinuses to flow.
When the passages in your sinuses become blocked, pressure develops and the nose may feel plugged. If your cold lingers for more than a week and you begin to have pain in the sinus area, headache, upper tooth pain, nasal obstruction/purulent d/c-see your doc.
