In brief: Could be many things
Besides sinus issues, infections, gastric reflux and drug side effects which should be rulled out with an examination, I have found that the most common cause is an ill fitting denture, temporary flipper, mouthguard or sleep apnea device.
Also there are many different rare causes of excessive saliva that include things like parkinsons disease, and myasthenia gravis. See your dentist.
