How does penicillin affect my Depo-Provera provera (medroxyprogesterone)?

Shouldn't. In general, antibiotics reduce the effectiveness of birth control pills. However, Depo Provera (medroxyprogesterone) is so suppressive that penicillin shouldn't lower its effectiveness. If you're concerned, use a back up method such as condoms or a diaphragm when taking antibiotics.

No. I don't think antibiotics interfere with hormone metabolism.A major exception is Rifampin which is for TB among other things. It is best to check with the doctor who put you on DepoProvera .Hope your ear infection gets better soon. Read more...

My 2nd month off Depo-Provera provera (medroxyprogesterone). been bleeding over a week, is this normal? What happens if I don't stop bleeding? Thanks.

Irregular periods. Depoprovera has a nice side effect of removing the menstrual cycle. Once you stop taking it your body will go back to normal. It may take a few months for all the medication to get out of your system. If you are not trying to conceive consider starting something else to help regulate the menstrual cycles. Read more...

I went in december 7th, 2011 for my Depo-Provera provera (medroxyprogesterone) shot; and I've been feeling very sick. I don't know if this is being caused by the Depo-Provera shot. Help!?

Doubt the Depo cause. Usually depo-provera doesn't cause nausea, but if it did, i would expect it would have occured sooner after the shot was given, because that is when the hormone level is highest in your body. Its levelgradually tapers downward over the 3 months it is active. However pregnancy can occur despite depo-provera (nothing is foolproof), so check a pregnancy test. Consider GI problems also. I'm on the Depo-Provera provera (medroxyprogesterone) shot. Normally, I don't have bleeding until 10-15 days before I get the next shot and it's light. Is random spotting normal?

Yes, usually normal. DepoProvera is a single hormone, Progesterone, as opposed to Oral Contraceptives which usually are a combination of Progesterone and Estrogen, in a variety of combinations. As a single hormone, sometimes it can be associated with what is called breakthru bleeding. If persistent and heavy, check with your Doctor or Nurse Practitioner. Never hesitate to check with your healthcare Provider. Read more...
