It's off the market. Baycol was a statin drug that lowered cholesterol ( like Lipitor (atorvastatin) and zocor) that was voluntarily removed from the market in 2001. This was because it was linked to the deaths of 52 people- mostly due to muscle damage that led to kidney failure.
Agree w Dr. Spector. Baycol (cerivastatin) was withdrawn from the world market after 31 deaths in the US and 21 outside the US related to rhabdomyolysis with renal failure. There were an additional 385 cases in the US which did not lead to death.
