Hydranencephaly is normally seen on ultrasound, and can be seen on the routine trimester ultrasounds that are performed during pregnancy. CT scans are another way to diagnose hydranencephaly. Just due to shear volume, I would think, ultrasound detects more hydranencephaly in newborns and in utero than MRI and CT scan combined.

This is a condition with an abnormality in cerebrospinal fluid flow/production and results in increased pressure within the ventricular system. This can occur in infancy and is noted with a rapidly enlarging head, but can be acquired after infection or trauma/bleeding in the brain usually an head ultrasound or ct is done.
