In brief: The implants are

Placed behind the glandular bresat and even behind the pectoral muscles.
Having implants do not prevent breast cancer. Implants can move or leak requiring more expensie testing (mri). If over 40, annual mammo and exam par for the course +/- implant.

In brief: Same as without

The reasons for a breast exam are the same whether you have a breast implant or not.
The self exam is essentially the same but a mammogram requires a different set of views called the ecklund technique. Occasionally an MRI may be a better test.
