In brief: Better

Totally artificial hearts have fallen out of favor. Life expectancy has been very short, less than 2 years.

In brief: No such thing

Nobody's implanting the fully artificial heart anymore.
The thing they implant is a rotary pump called an lvad (left ventricular assist device) that does the work of one heart chamber; you still have to keep your existing heart. Particularly sick people get something called bivad where one is implanted each for the left and right hearts. This is generally a situation only to get to transplant.
