In brief: Keep a food diary
If you develop hives immediately after eating, you might have a food allergy.
To test this idea, try writing down everything you ate before getting hives each time you get them for several episodes and look for an eating pattern. Eliminate foods you suspect for a week and then challenge yourself with them. See an allergist for more help with your specific hive problem if this doesn't help.

This is safe to do if you are only having hives. If in addition to hives you are experiencing difficulty breathing, swollen tongue, difficulty swallowing, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, dizziness or your feel like you are going to pass out - see the allergist first

In brief: Complicated
In general if a specific cause for allergies has been eliminated it is best to stick with a diet of low histamine producing foods while dealing with hives.
This would include limiting tomatoes strawberries as well as mushrooms and fermented cheeses.
