In brief: Same way as at 17

While erections may become less frequent and/or less firm as a man ages, they happen the same way and work the same way at any age.
We humans are sexual creatures, and it is healthy to remain that way for our full lifespan.

In brief: Same as always

The physiology of an erection is the same at 70's as it is at 18.
Granted there may be some vascular or nerve compromise that "blunts" the process so it's not as "potent" at 70 as when you are 18.
