Compartment syndrome develops when there is extravasation of fluid in area that has "walls"that creates a closed compartment such that the extravasated fluid cannot spread further&it creates tension.
When tension reaches a point where it ompromisesblood & nerve supply it becomes an emergency:the compartment syndr &needs to be surgically relieved. To prevent this md needs to make incisions/holes.
