In brief: Chitosan

Chitosan comes from chitin, part of the outer shell-like structure of insects, spiders, and crustaceans.
It can improve cholesterol levels when combined with a low calorie diet. There's mixed evidence for its usefulness in weight loss. It may increase risk of bleeding w/plavix & coumadin, (warfarin) etc, & add to effects of cholesterol-lowering, anti-obesity, or antibiotic drugs, herbs, or supplements.
