In brief: Major malformations

Both are major malformation.
Iniencephaly consists of a defect in the occipital bone, spina bifida of the cervical vertebrae and backward bending of the head on the cervical spine. Anencephaly consists of an absence of a major portion of the brain, predominantly the cerebral hemispheres, skull, and scalp, from failure of closure of the neural tube between the 23 and 26 weeks of pregnancy.
