In brief: Non-fried foods

Restaurant foods are often not made to be healthy but are made to taste good so customers will return.
That means restaurant foods will have more oil, more salt, or more sugar than home-made foods. Grilled chicken breast is good, but usually the menu item is fried chicken strips. Spaghetti with red sauce is ok, unless the sauce is too oily. A hamburger without mayo; with steamed veggies is ok.

In brief: Grilled meat/salad

Fried foods and sodas particularly supersized portions are culprits in the obesity epidemic.
If you have to eat at a fast food restaurant a grilled chicken salad, a roast chicken even a small broiled hamburger are better choices.

In brief: Same as at home

Many kids are allowed to have soda, fried foods, etc at the restaurant, but these are never good choices.
Skim milk (rare at restaurants) or water are healthy drinks. Be sure they have fruit and / or a vegetable. Grilled meats are a good protein source. Instead of fries, choose rice, noodles, or a baked potato. Model good eating habits and eat your veggies!
