In brief: Withdrawing?
What makes suicide so treacherous is that the person often withdraws and is less likely to be noticed by others.
If you know of a child or teen who's being abused (usually at home, less often at school or social media), tell someone who's got some clout. I'm a pathologist; the common trigger of a youngster's suicide is a parent tell him he's worthless.

Self-destructive behavior can also be a cry for help and lead to suicide eg. cutting, drinking heavily, getting high.

In brief: Call a Professional
Thinking about and planning suicide are risk factors for suicide.
Also, depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, substance abuse, eating disorders, and severe anxiety can increase the risk of suicide attempts. Physical illnesses can further increase the risk. There are also many "protective factors" that decrease the risk of suicide. It is best to call for professional help when concerned.
