I have genital herpes. Is it ok for me to have sex if the guy wears a condom?

Depends. If you have active lesions (ulcers/bumps), then you are infectious. You can easily pass it on to your partner through skin to skin contact. Herpes is not passed strictly by semen or vaginal fluid. It's passed by rubbing against the fluid filled blisters. That fluid has the virus. The same goes if you receive oral sex. You should wait until its suppressed to reduce (not eliminate) the risk.

Yes, no problem. People are immune to new infections with the same herpes type (HSV1 or HSV2) they already have. If it is certain you and your partner are both infected with the same type, or if one of you caught it from the other, there will be no risk for new infection. You'll probably want to avoid sex during outbreaks, for comfort and to avoid irritating the lesions. Otherwise feel free any time! Read more...

A sexual partner who contracts Herpes in this way not only won't be "thrilled" but it is a violation of sexual etiquette to not inform them of the risk of infection. Read more...
Learn the facts. Condom reduces the chance of transmission but the protection is not complete. You may transmit this virus between attacks when there is no sore at all. I'm a girl with genital herpes. As long as my partner use a condom and I take my medicine will it be ok to have sex?

Not always. If you have herpes lesions present, you are infectious. A condom will not prevent it because herpes lesions is usually on the skin. Herpes is spread via skin to skin contact, not semen or vaginal fluid. Even if you don't see or feel lesions, you may still have them and could infect your partner. Your risk of that is much lower though. Read more...
