Chlorampenical carries a small risk of blood dyscrasia whereas tobrex (tobramycin) has almost no side effects.
If you have had an infection diagnosed, your ophthalmologist (not an optometrist i hope!) will prescribe the appropriate eyedrop. Chloramphenicol is practically unavailable in the usa and so you would have to what several days for the pharmacy to order it.
