I take Prozac (20 mg/day) and ritalin (methylphenidate) (40 mg/day). Could longterm intake reduce my intelligence? I am very worried about changes in my brain chemistry

Prozac (fluoxetine) . I think the question is all things considered are these medications helping you feel more productive and better than if you were not taking them if no u might disscuss with your doctor about going off them. That said you went on them for a reason, what were those reasons? You have to weigh the positive and negative. People have a tendency to want a yes or no answer and that is not possible. Read more...
Brain changes. You would not lose intelligence from being on these medications. However, untreated depression and adhd would make it harder to perform well in school or in work. Ssri's may even evoke some positive brain changes -- such as increased neurogenesis in the hippocampus and overall neuron repair. http://tinyurl.com/d6b5s8c. Read more...

Can 600mg of gabapentin, 40mg of prozac, and 20mg of ritalin (methylphenidate) cause white blood cells to be 16.8. I take Prozac and ritalin (methylphenidate) in am and gabapentin in pm.

I have researched. This and all three drugs have been shown to rarely cause elevated white blood cell counts. Have your family doctor evaluate you and send you to a hematologist if it is felt to be necessary, although the count is not that high and should probably be followed to see if you are in the process of developing an infection somewhere or if it will spontaneously return to normal. Best wishes. Read more...
Monitor carefully. Gabapentin can lower WBC and therefore if using it, regular contact with your physician will keep track of your wbc. The other medications do not have a propensity for changes in the cbc. I am not aware that interaction with Prozac and/or Ritalin (methylphenidate) puts you at any increased risk. Read more...

How long until upping Prozac from 40mg to 60mg will I notice a difference? Also taking Ritalin (methylphenidate) 5-10mgx3 daily

Not a great combo. I usually don't do say this here, but I'm wondering why you are on those two medications together? I've been practicing for 30 years. I have no patients on Prozac and Ritalin (methylphenidate), (methylphenidate) as I believe, they would tend to work at cross purposes, I don't know what your target symptoms are, but Ritalin (methylphenidate) makes both depression and anxiety worse. If no response from Prozac at 40 mgs/day, 60 mgs/day might not help. Read more...
Prozac and ritalin (methylphenidate) You should be able to see response quickly within 3-5 days. You need to make sure about what symptom is the worst and address it. IF it is the depression, make sure it is stable before you address the ADD part. Read more...
