pylori bacteria. The urea test detects specially tagged carbon dioxide that is exhaled by the patient after H. pylori digests urea. A SIBO breath test is the Hydrogen Breath Test, which detects hydrogen and methane produced by unwelcome bacteria in the small intestine when the bacteria digest the test substance (lactulose or glucose).
