Is it serious if my baby isn't born on the due date?

In brief: Depends
Healthy babies are generally born within 1-2 weeks before and up to a week after their due date.
The "due date" is more a reference point than anything else. The farther away they are from the due date the more of certain risks are present.A kid born 10 weeks early has risks of prematurity, a kid born 2 weeks or more late has a placenta that is wearing out and has higher risk of stillbirth.

In brief: No
Don't think of it as a due date.
....It is a due week. 90% of all women will have their baby one week around their due date: 39-41 weeks.

In brief: No
The due date is an estimated date.
The delivery range may be up to two weeks before or after that date. If a patient has high blood pressure, gestational diabetes or other medical conditions, her doctor may consider nonstress testing and sonograms if the pregnancy continues past the due date. Most women will go into labor within a few days of the due date.
