May not ever return. Ovarian cysts generally develop during each menstrual cycle, in young women. Frequently one cyst per cycle becomes dominant and may enlarge to the point of discomfort prior to ovulation. There are many other causes of pelvic pain (scar tissue, endometriosis, infection).
