Gallbladder surgery on the 30th no bm since. OK to take a laxative?

Ill-advised. I don't recommend taking a stimulant laxative so soon after surgery, even if it was done laparascopically. Artificially induced peristalsis can be quite painful, occasionally dangerous, post op if the bowel isn't ready to resume working normally. I recommend walking, stool softener, a light diet and minimal use of narcotic meds during your recovery. Best wishes!
Gallbladder. not at all unusual. Take something mild like fleets enema or milk of magnesia (magnesium hydroxide) to get bowels going. Consult surgeon if no improvement.

I had gallbladder surgery 6 days ago and I still haven't had a bm. Is there a laxative or something I can take? My stomach is sooo bloated.

Yes. Drink more liquids & eat smaller amounts of solid foods. Decrease the amount of narcotic pain medication you are using or stop them. Go to the drug store & ask pharmacist. Can try milk of magnesia, miralax, (polyethylene glycol) magnesium citrate, etc. If you are also having vomiting or fever then contact your surgeon. Read more...
