Is it normal to feel numbness on 1 side of your body after microdiskectomy?

Neurosurgery
In brief: Possibly
Surgery requires some movement of the nerve and this can cause some numbness in the nerve afterward.
This should improve over the first 4-6 weeks after the surgery. If the surgery was a neck or cervical surgery, there may be some spinal cord swelling that needs to resolve. This numbness should improve but may linger to a small degree in the future.
