Is it recommended to take Prilosec in the morning and Zantac (ranitidine) at night for complete acid relief of GERD?
See your doctor. If you are initially treating presumed acid reflux, Prilosec 20 mg once each morning about 20 minutes before eating any food is a good start. If it does not completely relieve your symptoms after two weeks, however, or if they recur after stopping the Prilosec, then I would seek out treatment long term through your family doctor. Anti-reflux measures are important too. Good luck.
Taking 40mg prescription Prilosec daily and have breakthrough GERD which required zantac (ranitidine). Do I need a new ppi?
Maybe... If you are following strict dietary and lifestyle modifications routinely recommended to patients with gerd and are compliant with taking your Nexium (esomeprazole) it may be time to either try a different ppi or double the dose of nexium (esomeprazole). 30 - 40% of patients with gerd will require a double dose of ppi for control of symptoms. Make sure you are followed by a GI specialist. Good luck! Read more...
My husband had GERD several years ago with a dry cough that was diagnosis with Prilosec success. He has this again but not working. Prilosec + zantac (ranitidine)? Dosage?
Increase dose. If in fact the cough is caused by acid reflux coming up into the laryngeal area it may take using the Prilosec twice a day. Of course, the problem may be caused by something else such post-nasal drip or even cough varient asthma. It may be time to see a cough specialist such as an allergist or pulmunologist. Read more...
