On a liver dysfunction test the ALT was 175. Is this result dangerous?

In brief: Not in & of itself..

A normal alt is around 50.
Even though 175 is over triple this, it is not a very significant elevation. A dx, resulting from a good history and physical exam--with particular attention to liver and spleen size and lymph nodes--other blood test, including other liver function tests, tests for hepatitis, hiv, and tests indicated by h & p--is crucial. It may simply be 'fatty infiltration of liver'.
