Do antibiotics affect birth control, specifically IUDs? I'm on Cipro (ciprofloxacin) and have a Mirena IUD.

In brief: Not to worry

All IUDs prevent pregnancy, and antibiotics don't interfere with them. Mirena (levonorgestrel) combines the usual action of an IUD with the hormonal effects of the progesterone-type drug included with it.
A few antibiotics can affect the hormone's effectiveness, but most won't, including ciprofloxacin.
