See below. Irbesartan (avapro) can cause allergic facial swelling (angioedema), low blood pressure, high potassium and decreased white cell counts. It should not be used in females who could become pregnant. In spite of this the drug is often well tolerated and effective in patients with hypertension and will soon be available in generic form.
Adverse Reactions. Common adverse drug reactions (adrs) include: dizziness, headache, and/or hyperkalemia. Infrequent adrs associated with therapy include: first dose orthostatic hypotension, rash, diarrhea, dyspepsia, abnormal liver function, muscle cramp, myalgia, back pain, insomnia, decreased hemoglobin levels, renal impairment, pharyngitis, and/or nasal congestion.
