Can you be pregnant if your human chorionic gonadotropin (hcg) levels are 0?

You would not be! Hcg is produced immediately after implantation of the embryo and is the basis for all pregnancy tests. A level of zero-you can't be pregnant, assuming the test performed properly. Read more...

It usually doesn't. Most women do not lose weight during early pregnancy. When they do, it is usually because of nausea and vomiting from the high estrogen levels, which is an indirect effect of high HCG levels. Read more...

I know someone who wants to use hCG human chorionic gonadotropin diet. Is it safe?

500 cal/day ?? The weight loss is due to the severe caloric restriction. In men with low testosterone and normal testicles, it may work better because the HCG will increase the testosterone level. In women, HCG may increase progesterone. Higher Progesterone may lead to less anxiety and therefore less eating. Overall, smart eating plus increased activity is a better choice. Read more...
See below. This was a diet that was promoted in the 1950's and then someone "rediscoverered" it and it has become just the latest diet fad. It did not work then and it does not work now. It restricts calories to 500 per day which is basically a starvation diet. This will cause weight loss initially but as soon as you go off of it the weight will rapidly come back due the suppressed metabolism. Read more...

Does the human chorionic gonadotropin (hcg) hormone work to lose weight?

Actually, no. This probably would not work to lose weight. It goes up in the beginning of pregnancy, peaks and falls slightly by term. When it goes up, the mother increases in weight and the baby also grows, so it is unlikely that this would result in or enhance weight loss. As of december 6, 2011, the fda has prohibited the sale of "homeopathic" and otc HCG diet products and declared them illegal. Read more...

How can antibodies be used to detect human chorionic gonadotropin?

Immunoassay. A technique known as the immunoassay, first developed by Berson and Yalow in the late '50's and early '60's, and for which they won the Nobel prize in 1977, uses hCG-specific antibodies to quantifiably identify the hCG, then a secondary antibody with a quantifiable marker (color, radioactivity, etc) to identify the hCG/hCG antibody complexes. It remains a very important means of testing in endocri. Read more...

Is it true that human chorionic gonadotropin only produced if you are pregnant?
