In brief: Make home safe

First thing is to get help and see how to make your home more safe.
Exercise can really help with balance and tai chi has been proven many times to help improve balance in older people which leads to reduced injuries.

Fitness and balance training are needed but may not be enough. Other measures useful are getting rid of loose rugs, electrical cords and flimsy knick-nacks from common pathways. If infirmity is severe, then hand rails, grab bars, sturdy furnishings to hold onto, and most important good lighting.
