Its not greater, but it if occurs one needs to be evaluated quickly. A rupture of membranes when vasa previa is present can be potentially dangerous for the fetus.

The risk is for peripartum hemorrhage (massive bleeding at the time of childbirth), not for preterm labor. You & the OB/GYN have to prepare ahead of time to make sure the process of childbirth is safe for you & the baby.
