In brief: Lobelia plant

there is an alkaloid derived from this plant that is called lobeline, which has been used as a smoking cessation product for many years, but with pretty modest results.
It is widely used in Europe and Russia, but there is evidence that both nicotine replacement therapy and the 2 main prescription medications (bupropion and varenicline) work better. Haven't had anybody using it recently.
