What is an MRI?

Magnetic Reasonance. MRI stands for Magnetic Resonance Imaging. It uses a magnetic field and pulses of radio wave energy to make pictures of organs and structures inside the body. unlike X-ray or CT, there is no ionizing radiation with an MRI. MRI gives different information about structures in the body than can be seen with an X-ray, ultrasound, or CT scan.

What is a mri?

An imaging procedure. Mri is an imaging procedure which provides the radiologist with detailed images of the body. The machine uses a very large magnet to help produce the images. There is no ionizing radiation. During the procedure, the machine will make many loud noises. Most patients choose to wear headphones and listen to music to avoid some of the noise. Read more...
MRI safety. Before your MRI you will be asked a series of questions to determine if the MRI is safe for you. For example, people with pacemakers should avoid MRI since the magnet in the machine can disrupt your pacemaker. Read more...

Functional mri fmri. Is complicated. It looks at the blood flow to your brain during various segmented repeated activities like tapping your fingers or looking at a optical maze. But it can also include diffusion tensor imaging, proton spectroscopy and other images. www.medscape.org/viewarticle/776272 discusses some of the new imaging MRI techniques for brain tumors. What is an MRI without contrast?

It is. a standard MRI examination performed without the injection of intravenous contrast material("dye"). Some types of MRI studies require contrast, others don't. Read more...

What tissue does MRI contrast not enhance?

MRI contrast. Air, Bone, and thrombus do not resonate and thus do not provide signal on MRI. Additionally, if a tissue is completely devascularized (no vessels leading to it) or impenetrable to gadolinum (MR contrast) administration, enhancement will not be seen. Read more...

What can an MRI with contrast show that an MRI without contrast cannot show?

Enhancement. Contrast causes enhancement of certain structures, like abscesses, making them much easier to see. In addition, the differential diagnosis hinges sometimes on whether a structure enhances or not with contrast. Read more...

If a dignastic mamm shows a irregular focal asymmetric density what will a MRI show with this finding?

It might show more. Mri shows a more detailed picture and will clarify the images better than a mammogram does. But it has some false positives too. So it may or may not help, yet it may be entirely normal in which case you can forget about the suspicious thickening shown by the mammogram. Read more...
