Urine toxicology screens are quite common, though some now use saliva tests which are less prone to deceptive behavior. Some employers also use hair analysis, which looks back over a longer period of time and almost eliminates any potential for deception.

The most common are called "immunoassay ", which is a fairly sensitive screening test but gives little more info and has lots of false positive and false negatives. Gas chromatography mass spectrometry is much better and provides specific levels. Levels detected are much lower than can what be reported. "SAMSHA" controls reporting level guidelines
