Can a fecal occult blood test tell me if I have colon cancer?

In brief: No

Occult blood in stool suggests a point of bleeding from area near appendix across the colon to the rectum. This could be AV malformation, bleeding polyp, tumor, hemmorhoid or fissure.
When blood is detected it has to be defined as to origin. Occassionally colonoscopy will reveal a lesion. Newer stool tests for tumor protein more accurate.
