In brief: Because kids are

Less active these days.
There are more kids indoors playing video games than outdoors getting exercise. Schools have reduced physical ed classes and there is more obesity in this country and that contributes to the problem. It is a multifactorial problem but pretty much less exercise + more obesity= less fitness.

In brief: Fitness

Mostly because schools have dropped routine gym or have given the student an option whether or not to participate.
Children are also exposed to unhealthy diets and this is interfering with their ability to become fit. Thanks for asking. Parents need to encourage and participate as much as possible.
