Had cholecystectomy 2 months taking sucralfate for a week for bile reflux. Really bad chest pain and sore throat. How long for sucralfate to work?
1 to 2 weeks. I would think that if the sucralfate is going to actually help, you should start noticing some improvement within 1 to 2 weeks. If you do not, then I would return to your doctor for the next step in the work up and/or the treatment of your symptoms. Good luck.
Have bile reflux after cholecystectomy. GI prescribed denoltab. Is this med better than sucralfate and If does not work what's next to treat bile?
Different medication. Denoltab is a bismuth containing compound that is often used for gastric ulcers associated with H. pylori. It coats the stomach and helps protect the ulcer bed to allow it to heal. Sucralfate has a different mechanism of action and may be more effective for bile reflux symptoms it also binds bile salts. If true reflux of the esophagus and Meds don't work you may benefit from anti-reflux surgery. . Read more...
