When should you go to the ER for a hurt/broken toe? I hurt my toe (the one next to the smallest one) and its swollen, tingling, a little bruised.

In brief: If it is a concern
It is not unusual to break a toe.
If the toe is in good alignment, pink and warm, that is a good sign. You should have it evaluated either in the er if you are concerned. If it is feeling better, aligned well, pink and warm, you could probably wait and see your podiatrist tues. Stay off the foot, wear a stiff soled shoe or sandal, take anti inflamatories and elevate often. Er though if unsure dr l.

In brief: OK Buddy tape
Generally, 2nd, 3rd, 4th toe fractures are treated conservatively (no surgery).
Fractures that are displaced and/or dislocated need to be seen for xrays and reduction (put back in aligment). Also fractures through the joint may cause problems later-so it best to get seen but you can tape the injured toe to one next to it (middle toe) =called 'buddy taping'. Expect 4-6 weeks of healing time.

In brief: Broken toe
You can go to a podiatrist's office for an x-ray and evaluation.
They can also treat you for any problem of that toe.
