My younger sister has been taking tramadol regularly for the past 2 weeks. Will tramadol show up on a drug test for work and will she pass?

In brief: Not likely

Although Tramadol is considered an opiod receptor agonist, amongst other things, it is not structurally similar enough to other narcotics to be detectable via a urine toxicology screening.
The only way to detect it is to specifically check for it in the blood. Also, even if a substance is detected in a drug test, most companies allow it, as long as it is prescribed by a physician

In brief: Probably not

Routine drugs of abuse testing for opioids will not detect Tramadol, or some other semisynthetic opioids.
In the event she would test positive, proof of a legitimate prescription may mitigate any adverse action. Thanks for trusting HealthTap!

In brief: Yes, if they test it

Most drug tests do not test for tramadol.
The standard drug tests would not show tramadol.
