38wks pregnant with my 2nd child. How can you tell when you've lost your mucus plug? Does it come out all at once or over a few days?

In brief: Depends

the cervix usually effaces (thins out) earlier in second pregnancies and loss of the 'plug' can occur earlier and over weeks and so be less obvious.
it is not an important sign. breaking the water or bleeding or cramping or a combination of these things are the more important signs to watch for and report.
