I'm pregnant, and ive had one bowel movement during the last three weeks. I'm on colace, (docusate sodium) Metamucil. My doctor says not to worry. Should I worry?
Not normal. I would be concerned about your bowel habits. It is not normal to have bowel movements that infrequently. I recommend to my patients that they increase fiber in their diet, add a fiber supplement, take colace, increase oral fluid intake, and take miralax (polyethylene glycol). The miralax (polyethylene glycol) is especially important as it will work for almost everyone if they take enough of it. Good luck.
I have a back issue and am constipated. I took 4 colace (docusate sodium) stool softeners and still have not had a bowel movement, its been 3 days, should I try the?
Continue the colace (docusate sodium) If you are taking pain medications for the back issue, you can become rather constipated due to them. Therefore i recommend that anyone taking narcotic pain meds regularly take a stool softener. I'd recommend continuing the colace, (docusate sodium) make sure to drink plenty of water, and you can add one other over the counter medication to help you have a bm such as mineral oil, senna, or dulcolax. Possible internal hemorrhoid for over a month w/ constipation or painful bowl movement, occasional blood. Saw doc took colace (docusate sodium) + prescription suppository no success?
Further evaluation. is needed. A referral to a general or colon-rectal surgeon is a good idea. In the meantime, keep BM's soft with Miralax (polyethylene glycol 3350) and lots of fiber in diet. Local care to anus with warm baths and suppositories can also help. Thanks for trusting HealthTap! Read more...
