In brief: Approach & Practice

Holistic is a term that refers to treating the whole person rather than treating conditions.
There are several professions that encourage this. Naturopathic medicine is a distinct system of medicine that has a holistic approach and uses natural agents and medicines to help patients regain and maintain their health.

Holistic Medicine

In brief: Very similar but...

Holistic medicine is a philosophy of healing that involves treating the whole person, mind, body & spirit, in the context of environment.
Naturopathy is a style of medicine that is holistic in nature & uses natural therapies like vitamins & herbs. While naturopaths are holistic, other practitioners like md's, homeopaths, acupuncturists & chiropractors can be holistic as well. See comments for more:.

This link discusses the 6 main principles of naturopathy: http://naturopathic.org/content.asp?contentid=59 Here is info on the principles of Holistic Medicine: http://www.holisticmedicine.org/content.asp?pl=2&sl=22&contentid=22 As you can see, they are almost identical. Basically, Naturopathy is a subtype of Holistic Medicine. All naturopaths are holistic but not all holistic docs are naturopaths.
